This Thursday at 1:30pm marked our official start of the summer vacation. Clara is finally out of school. I always look forward to the summer vacation, but am beginning to have second thoughts already. Clara and Ollie are constantly at each other. Clara often has a bad attitude about not being constantly entertained and Ollie is yelling when he doesn't get his way. Izzy is just plain old stubborn.
The first thing on Clara's summer list was to build a terrarium. I had already purchased a large jar of pickles and snipped a houseplant in preparation for this project. We collected moss from the base of a tree and threw in some sea shells from Oregon.
I have researched free or nearly free things for us to do this summer. These include indoor play areas at churches, Calloways Nursery workshops for kids, and all the summer library offerings for kids. Clara is participating in reading programs through Barnes and Noble, Borders, Half Price Books and the Lewisville Library. Ollie and Izzy are also participating in the library program. Clara's efforts have already resulted in free books and prizes. And, of course, we will be swimming daily, reading daily, and crafting daily. The TV has been moved and banned for the children, with the exception of an occasional movie night.

Kudos! I fully support your summer plans for the kiddos! Meet my friend, Carisa. I student taught for her way-back-when...http://alittleknitting.blogspot.com/2010/06/summer-fun.html Maybe there are some ideas you can glean from her blog?
Enjoy!
