Happy Earth Day

I am constantly disgusted at the fact that our apartment and Parker College do not have recycling bins available, that people throw away perfectly wonderful things like children's bikes and drive Hummers and huge trucks for their commute and that my vehicle guzzles gas as well. People are missing the point when they go shopping at Payless to get a free "green, reusable, earth-friendly" shopping bag and what they're buying is junk that will go in the landfill in a year anyway. I get frustrated that I can't compost or hang out my laundry or have a garden. But... this morning Clara insisted that I buy gloves today so later we can go down to the water behind our apartment and pick up trash. The turtles, ducks, geese, cranes and fish are most definitely worth the effort to pick up some of that trash. Also, Clara and Ollie have been practicing riding their bikes and trikes in this beautiful weather and are excited about those possibilities. Even though it is impossible right now for us to walk or ride bikes to school, library, or church we need to keep the dream alive. I try to do what I can, use florescent bulbs, buy organic food, combine my errands into fewer trips, create goods out of items otherwise bound for the landfill or a third world country, recycle, conserve water and energy on a daily basis. In a few years I hope to do much more.

Zoobilee

Friday we attended a special members event at the zoo. We rode the carosel (for FREE), ate supper(it was awful), touched a turtle and snake, previewed a new white alligator exhibit, and waited in line for face painting.

Clara

I found this photo of Clara that I hadn't really noticed before. Check out those eyes!

Ollie quote

After eating a piece of candy, Ollie said to me, "You can kiss my sugar out now." I kissed one cheek and then he said, "There's sugar in this cheek, too," as he pointed to his other cheek. Of course, I had to kiss it!
