Quilts, Shells and Sand

I've been much to busy to blog regularly, but I wanted to share a few pictures from our SUPER FUN weekend in Houston and Galveston.

We went to Houston for the MCC Sale.  It was small and quaint, inside a church.  Ten Thousand Villages had a tent set up on the premises from which we purchase jewelry and toys.  The kids all got something.  I had given the kids each $5.00 to do what they wanted with.  Those $5 bills went for used books and baked goods (no surprise there!)  I did bid on 2 items in the auction.  The first was an oak jewelry chest that looks just like a chest of drawers.  We won that bid and Clara was thrilled as this was to be hers.

I also bid on a quilt, but dropped out about half way through.  One could get a good quilt bargain at that sale!

When the sale was finished we headed down to Galveston.  It was cool and overcast during most of our trip, but we didn't get rained on.

The kids had a blast combing the beach for shells and whatever else they could find.  Oliver, especially, could have stayed on the beach indefinitely.  Treasures inside there buckets included many shells, barnacles, hermit crab bits and pieces and even a larger crab claw.

We also purchased some shells and things in a very fun store that is literally on the ocean.

Then we took a boat ride in the bay to see dolphins.  We did see dolphins very close, but they are nearly impossible to photograph from a moving boat.  The kids thought this was the best thing ever!

I kept trying to get a good picture of the pelicans.  The shrimping boats were fun to see.

We really had a great time.  It was a much needed break for everyone.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween from Snow White, Mr. Pirate, and Soaring Eagle!

I think the feathers suit Soaring Eagle quite well.
This is the first year Mr. Pirate has not been afraid of the dark.

Snow White was feeling camera shy so I had to get an action shot later.   Once she figured out we were looking for lit porch lights, she exclaimed excitedly about every light knowing she would get candy.  She talked about how heavy her bag was but would not let anyone else carry it.

Fall Festival

Ollie's school had a fall festival this week.  The kids got to dress up in their costumes.  Ollie was very excited about the entire thing and the evening.  Clara was excited, but got grouchy when we kept saying "You're too old for that."  Isabel was shy and scared and didn't want to participate in anything.  The next day Oliver was sick with food poisoning or 24 hour flu or something.  He was bummed to miss school, but knew he felt too awful to go.  He was better enough yesterday so we could attend our church fall picnic/pumpkin carving party (even though it was pouring rain and we had to carve on the front porch.)

Busy

As you know my life gets very busy this time of year with my Etsy shop.  I just finished the street bazaar and am looking towards a farmer's market at the end of October.  Also, my items will be sold at The Beadery in Newton during November and December.  Aside from all this, I have special orders through Etsy.  Today I am posting one order that I just completed.

A set of 6 red stocking with white initials on them:

Urban Street Bazaar

I had a great weekend selling at the Urban Street Bazaar in Oak Cliff this past weekend.  Damian was there to help me every step of the way.  Saturday the kids were at a baby-sitter's during the day and then with us in the evening and on Sunday.

I sold nearly 75% of my original goal, which I thought was a fairly loft goal.  I sold almost equal amounts on Saturday and Sunday, even though Sunday was half the time as Saturday.  I already have 2 special orders from the event and will hopefully get more.

I traded one of my neighbors a stocking and toddler dress for 3(one for each kid) really cool T-shirts.  Clara bought a super cool feather hair accessory, Ollie bought a blue ring made from a tagua seed, and Izzy bought a pink bracelet also from tagua seeds.  We ate delicious empanadas while we were there.  Clara danced to the DJ's music and they all enjoyed watching and petting all the many dogs that walked by.  It was an awesome scene for people watching.  I wish someone could have been taking pictures of the people buying my stuff!

Partners in Crime

Can you guess?  Yes, Oliver and Isabel.  They like to take pictures with the only functioning camera in the family.  So the other day I went to load pics onto the computer and surprise, surprise, there were 50-some pictures.  Most I deleted, but I did keep a few.  Favorite subject?  Lewy, of course!  I thought these pics of Ollie's marble race were pretty psychodelic, man.
